  • Samsung sells hard drive business to Seagate

Seagate has finished purchasing rival Samsung's hard drive business. As originally announced in April of this (2012) year, there are many repercussions to the deal. Seagate will get a cadre of Samsung managers and employees, and Samsung solid-stage storage for its hybrid drives, too. Meanwhile, Samsung gets a 9.6 percent ownership stake in Seagate, a good bit of cash, and supplies of Seagate hard drives for its computers.

  • Future of mechanic based hard drives. HAMR or BPM?

Hard disk drives based on moving parts and storing information on magnetic plates, looks have reached its capacity limits, reaching density 1-1.5 terabits per square inch.. On the another hand, hard disk manufactures concentrated their attention on solid state technologies (SSD) providing significiant performance boost, but lagging behind with capacity. From apart it looks like poker game, guessing what will go next.

  • OCZ RevoDrive Hybrid

OCZ  announced hybrid hard disk drive containing  100Gb SSD drive and 1Tb regular hard disk drive. Disk is represented as a PCI-e extension card.  Such storage division will allow frequent files store on SSD disk while less frequent files tore on large capacity hard drive.
